GOEN (ご縁) speaks of chance encounters that come to mean something. Someone you meet, a flavour you discover, an unplanned seat at the bar that becomes your favourite spot. In Madrid’s Jerónimos neighbourhood, we want to give those moments a place to happen.
ROOTED IN JAPAN FREE TO PLAY

Our inspiration is the irreverent spirit of Osaka’s obaachan: grandmothers who mix tradition, bold prints and good conversation with complete ease. That confidence runs through GOEN. Japanese technique gives us a foundation; curiosity takes us towards flavours from China, Korea and elsewhere in Asia.
Here, funk is a way of doing things. Fermenting, experimenting, changing with the season and keeping the dishes people return for.
The kitchen and the bar move together. Dashi, koji and pickles meet our signature cocktails, with ingredients such as hojicha, yuzu and shiso. Sake, wine, Japanese beer and house kombucha open up more ways to explore. Food and drinks have equal space in the conversation.
Warm wood, low light, red and black. Music setting the pace. Our take on glam funk is intimate, playful and made for the pleasure of staying a little longer.
